Weeks 14 and 15

The most exciting bit of news to share with you all since the last update is that I *think* I can feel the babe tickling me from time to time in there. It happens late at night after I've eaten and I'm lying still on my back. Not sure for sure yet but I haven't felt anything quite like it before. The bump is getting bigger, as you can see. I made a archive page for all the bump pictures so you can see how much that belly has already changed. Check it out here or from the link under the page header.

From Bean to Babe

Below are the first photos of our little bean babe. The first was taken at 7 weeks, 5 days old. The second at 12 weeks, 1 day and the last at 12 weeks, 6 days old.  As you can see, what used to be a bean is now definitely a babe. Amazing how that happens so fast! We had to have two taken in the twelfth week because the babe wasn't cooperating for the screening test. As you can see, babe wanted to be sitting up instead of lying down and that wasn't going to fly. The good news is the second time around, babe was lying perfectly and past all the tests with flying colors. So we know this kid is already taking after both parents - stubborn and smart! Just a few more weeks until our anatomy scan when we can find out if the babe is a boy or a girl! What do you think?

Little bean.
Stubborn little babe...possibly sucking thumb already!

Surviving the First Trimester

Ok, here we go...the first pregnancy post. Since I've never been pregnant before, this is all  very new to me. Some things I've had to get used to right off the bat: (1) I have very little control over what my body is doing right now and I have a feeling that's not going to change; (2) eat when your tummy says to eat; (3) eat when your tummy says not to eat; (4) get over it and just buy a bigger bra already; (4) yoga pants are a girls best friend; (5) girlfriends are also mandatory; (6) don't take everything out on your husband, it really isn't (entirely) his fault.

Below are pictures and week-by-week anecdotes and below those I posted my first trimester "stats". Now that the secret is out, hopefully I'll be able to post weekly updates from now on.

First Trimester Stats:
Total Weight Gain: 3lbs (feels like waaaay more!)
Cravings: pasta and carbs and COLD fresh fruit
Aversions: coffee, certain veggies, Mexican food (usually a staple in my diet!)
Morning sickness: worst weeks 7-9
Baby's size: week 6 - the size of a sweet pea ; week 13 - the size of a peach
Unwanted side effects: acne breakouts, exhaustion, constipation (sorry tmi), potty breaks 3-4 times a night
Wanted side effects: thick glorious hair (which needs to be cut!), an excited husband

Little White Lie

So, it turns out I might have been fibbing a bit in my last post...truth is, my friend Kelly isn't the only one with a baby bump (not anymore though - she had her baby). Turns out I'm growing one these days too! Surprised?! Us too! Baby "Chadski" (yes, it's just a nickname...) is due in early December. Looks like big changes are heading our way. Hope you all don't mind a bit of baby blogging because you'll hear a lot of it over the next six months. We started this blog originally to document our wedding preparation. It then became a place to post pictures and stories of our newlywed lifestyle and of course, over the past year you all followed us through the (on-going) saga of building our first home. And now, on to the next chapter. Hope you all stick around through this crazy adventure too! It's going to be a wild ride.

14 week old bump - honestly can't really hide it anymore!

Baby Bump

No, not me, silly. These are two of our good friends, Kelly and Ryan. Kelly's official due date is tomorrow, we can't wait to meet little baby M! A few weeks ago I took pictures for them after Kelly's shower. Isn't she just the cutest thing? Look at that bump!

Birthday Recap

I had a super nice, super low-key 30th birthday. James made me a delicious homemade eggplant parmesan dinner and surprised me with new earrings to replace the ones I lost on my recent trip to Las Vegas. I told him I didn't want a party or any surprises so we spent the evening (it was a Thursday) together at home. That weekend we shared some family time and celebrated a joint Mother's Day and birthday with our parents and my brother and sister-in-laws family. All in all, it was a nice, relaxing weekend. Just what I needed.

I was, however, presented with an outrageous birthday surprise by my co-workers. As I've mentioned in the past, I have an awesome job made even more awesome by the super cool people I work with. As you can see from these pictures, they really went all out to decorate my office and surprise me with goodies on my birthday. These people are the best!
Surprised! With breakfast in my hand!
That is like a four pound gummy bear!

Thank you to everyone who made my 30th birthday a special one. Thirty isn't so bad afterall, especially with you all in my life.
