Snow Day

As I alluded to in my "Day in the Life" post, we had a pretty major snowstorm last week. In the end, we got about 18 inches of snow. The roads were shut down until 2 pm so we were all home together on a random Tuesday. Here's what it looked like when we ventured outside after the snow let up.

PS - Remember the blizzard of 2013? Cece was just about Sully's age then. They look like twins in their snow gear.

Day in the Life - Winter 2015

This is the third installment of the "Day in the Life Of" series. Ha. If you want to know what our super thrilling, totally adventurous life was like in the past, check out version 1 (with 7 month old Cece) and version 2 (snow day with 1 year old Cece). Lots of details and pics here but I hope you make it to the end because that's when I detail exactly how little sleep we (I) got that night...oy, these kids!

Ok, on to the details. This took place on Monday, January 26th. I'm on maternity leave, home with Cecelia (age 2) and Sullivan (age 2 months). This is what our day/night looked like.

6:30 AM - Sullivan stirs in his bed. James is up getting ready for work. He gets Sully and brings hime to me in bed. We nurse and snuggle. Say goodbye to James as he's off to work.
7:20 AM - Cece starts to stir in bed.

7:25 AM - Cece is awake. Plop Sully into the Mamaroo and go and retrieve Cece from her crib. First thing she does when she gets upstairs is say good morning to Sully and reads to him from her Minnie Mouse book.

7:30 AM - Make Cece breakfast, she chooses Mickey Mouse for her morning cartoon. Must have MM on the brain this morning.

8 AM - Coffee, finally. Sully's crying. Go get him from the Mamaroo and nurse.

8:20  AM - Complete Sully's last nebulizer treatment for his cold (his sister gave him RSV, yay) and nurse to cheer him up.

8:30-9 AM - Dress myself, start laundry, clean up breakfast while Sully naps and Cece reads books.

9 AM - Nana and grandpa arrive. They are visiting grandkids (my brother and his fam are just next door) and will watch Cece for me while I take Sullivan to the doctors. We chat for a bit about the pending snowstorm (already labeled "Blizzard 2015" by the media) and how it might impact their scheduled departure time for their annual trip to Florida.

9:35 AM - Sully and I arrive a the pediatrician's 5 minutes late for appointment. Not that it matters because they are running behind schedule already. Should have know. Once we see the doctor he says Sully's RSV symptoms have improved and won't need the nebulizer anymore (yay) but now he has an ear infection (nay). Orders prescription for antibiotics.

10:15 AM - Arrive home again. Briefly. Must go out again to get Sully's medicine. Nana and Gramps decide it's in their best interest to leave the state immediately as to out drive the impending blizzard so we all say our goodbyes. See you in March!

10:30 AM - Get word that nephew Zachary's heart surgery went smoothly. The whole family breathes a collective sigh of relief. So happy. That kid is a trooper.

11 AM - Wait in line for Sully's prescription. With two kids under the age of two, I am thankful for drive up windows. Note, it's snowing out already. I thought it wasn't supposed to start until the evening?!

11:15 PM - Arrive back home. Reheat coffee that has been sitting untouched since this morning. Meanwhile, I set Cece up with her paints. Go into the nursery to give Sullivan his first dose of meds. Come out to find Cece eating her paints. That's the end of that.

Noon- Lunch time. We watch coverage of blizzard Colbie or is it's name Juno? Depends on which station you watch. In any case, it sounds like we are all going to die. Typical.

12:30 PM - Make smiles with Sully, kids play together. That's cute. Is it nap time yet?

1 PM - Yes! It's nap time.
1:10 PM - Sully is sleeping. Cece is not. Oh wait, now she is. Phew!

1:45 PM - Sully is up to nurse. Decides he's done napping.

2:15 PM - Sully watches me do my 10 minute abs workout. That's the first real "exercise" I've done since I got pregnant. Thank god it only lasted 10 minutes.

2:45 PM - Make my first ever "shakeology" shake to celebrate my 10 minute abs. Just kidding. God I hope this crap helps me lose the baby weight. Mmmmm.

3:00 PM - Fold laundry, Sully is fussing.

3:15 PM - Cece's still asleep. Try to nurse a fussy Sully. He poops instead and then is ready for nap in mamaroo.

3:45 PM - Decide to work on those dishes that have been starring at me all day.

4 PM - Cece stirs. Go down and get her up or else she won't sleep tonight. She's a super crank. We cuddle. She throws a tantrum or two. Typical.

4:45 PM - Nurse Sully while watching news coverage about the storm.

5 PM - Plan dinner deal while dealing with two whiny kids. Check phone. James still long way from home, traffic must be bad.

5:45 - Start dinner. Now wearing Sully because the kid just isn't having it this evening.

6:15 PM - James is home. Yay!

6:30 PM - Dinner. Better late than never.

7 PM - Sully falls asleep on my shoulder. Must have been all that fussing. We watch Jeopardy together while James and Cece play downstairs.

7:20 PM - Cece's bath time.

7:30 PM - Jammies and trains, per our nighttime routine.

7:45 PM - Books, books and more books. Have to cut Cece off.

8:15 PM - Finally say goodnight to Cece. Take Sullivan upstairs. Nurse again and get him ready for bed. Kid just doesn't want to settle down tonight. He's had a tough day. Must be the cold and his ear infection. Anyway, he fights bedtime for me until I finally give up. James takes over while I get ready for bed.

10 PM - I'm in bed. Kids are sleeping.

11 PM - Cecelia is up. Note I am asleep, I only learn of this interaction the next morning but here's what went down: James goes in to see what's up. He asks if she has to poop (why?). She says no. He tells her to be sure to tell him when she has to poop (again, why?). To her credit she will remember this even as it wrecks havoc on the rest of the night.

11:30 PM - Sully wakes himself up after coughing. I nurse him back to sleep. Back to bed around midnight.

2 AM - Cece's up. Says she has poop. Sniff test confirms she's fibbing (of course at this point I have no knowledge of her earlier conversation with James). I sing the Thomas the Train theme song upon request and send her back to bed.

3:30 AM - Sully's awake. I nurse, he goes back to sleep.  I snap a snow pic before getting back to bed at 4 AM.

5:30 AM - Cece's up again. What the what?! This is not normal. She tells me she pooped. Sniff check again. No poop. Says she needs to poop. I ask if she wants to try the potty. Yes she says. We try, no poop. She demands a treat (she gets MM's for sitting or using the potty). Have to go upstairs to get said treat. Manage to convince her it's still nighttime. Back to bed at 6 AM. Can't believe that didn't wake Sully.

6:20 AM - Oh, wait, Sully's up. Get him and bring him to bed. Nurse. We fall asleep. What a rough night it's been!

9 AM - Snow day! No one in the state of CT is working today. Lots of snow outside. Wake up to James cleaning house and both babies still sleeping! But not for long...

PS - See our fun in the snow pictures here!
