Other People's Kids.

It's no secret that I take a lot of photos of Cecelia. Pretty soon the poor kid is going to start hiding when the camera comes out, just like James does. But recently, I've had the opportunity to photograph other people's kids, too. I have to confess lately I've had a love hate relationship with photography. I love taking the pictures. I hate the editing process. It can take hours that add up to days for me to sort through and edit the photos I take during a single session. If I were a better photographer I would get it right "straight out of the camera" and not have to do much to touch up a photo. But I'm not. Fake it until you make it, right? Or at least until you have the time to really learn what you're doing. Which at this rate will be never. Oh well. Below are a few of my favorites from a few baby sessions and a "coming soon" session last fall. Kids are cool. See more photos of cool kids and other stuff on my photography web page.

Cece's First Fish

Last weekend we went down to the Salmon River with our friends Kris and Gina to try and catch a fish. Turns out they knew we were coming and stayed away. So after a few hours and no fish, we returned to the lake house and tried our luck off my parents dock. And boy were they biting there! We caught more than a dozen small bass and sunfish in an hour or so. Cece got to see her first fish up close. Not sure she was overly impressed, though. Still, it was good fun and now that we know where the fish hang out, we'll be sure to be "goin' fishin'" all summer long.

Summit and Beanie ready to go fishin'!
Just chillin' in her tent.
All it takes is one babbling stream to get her to nap. Out cold.
Finally, a fish!
Not impressed.

Cecelia at Five Months

Cece is five months old (yesterday). She spent her entire five month birthday crying. She's either coming down with a cold or she's teething. Or both. In any case, it was a rough way to spend the day (and night). Hopefully she's turned the corner and on the mend. Sick babies are sad sights (and sounds!).

Biggest thing that happened since last month's update is rolling. She completed her first official unaided roll at 4.5 months and has since turned into a powerhouse steamroller. She has figured out that she can use her new skills to get from point A to point B. Point B usually being some 20 feet across the room. We put her down on her play mat and come back a few minutes later and she's literally under the couch. Funny kid. As you can see she's also sitting up (though still somewhat wobbly) and is also standing up for short periods of time while holding on to something or someone. I think she's be an early walker at this rate. Watch out!

She's sleeping a little better and I'm only feeding her once a night. If she wakes up again she usually can put herself back to sleep. A typical schedule is 8 pm bedtime, 11 pm feeding, 6 am in bed with us to nurse, 7:30 am wake up. If she's really tired the 11 pm feeding is pushed to 2:30 am and then she'll sleep in her own bed until 7:30 when it's time to get up for the day. Of course, there are always nights when she's just not into sleeping and would rather cry. Like last night. Oy!

Cece has really found her voice. This kid makes the funniest noises. Screeches, screams, babble, bubbles, hilarity. She loves talking to Summit too. I have to try and get that on camera. She's said 'dada' a few times, but I am not counting it as a first word because I think it's just been a coincidence more than anything (or maybe I just want her first word to be mama??) We're also working on sign language, mostly the basics - mama, dada, doggie, milk, more, all done. I don't think she has a clue yet what we're doing/saying.

Her hair and her eyelashes are starting to thicken up, though her hair is so light it still looks like she's pretty bald most of the time. I think she has her daddy's hair. It's much lighter than mine and by the time I was her age I had a full head of it.

Cece's also a little chunk. Her thighs. Oh my. They are to die for. Chunks. We call them thunder thighs in my family. I had them when I was her age. I still do. =) I weighed Cece on our home scale this morning. Unofficially she weighs 16 pounds. She's wearing size 6-9 months clothes.

Cece's five month photos are below. Check out our Cece Update page to see how much she's grown in five months. Pretty incredible!

Instagram Photo Dump, Vol. 2

It's been awhile since I posted Instagram favorites on the blog. Of course, you can keep up with these on a regular basis if you want to follow us on Instagram. Otherwise, I'll keep posting my favorites every month or so for our archives. Here are a few awesome memories that happened since the last dump. =)
