Oh my. Can I have my stationary baby back now, please? We have enough sleep problems as it is but now that Cece discovered this new move she's literally out of control. The party goes from a good time to a horror show real fast when she finds herself upside down and sideways with her feet hanging out of the crib. She hasn't quite mastered rolling back over to her back so it doesn't take her long to freak out. It's not so great for mommy either since I'm literally just sitting in bed watching to be sure she hasn't suffocated. Needless to say, there wasn't much sleeping going on last night until I finally gave in and brought her to bed with us. Any moms (or dads) out there have any suggestions? Do you just let them figure it out on their own? Help!
I know this seems obvious, but have you tried giving her more time during the day/evening (non nap/sleep times) to play on the floor and practice rolling around? Maybe if she has more time during the day to roll around it won't be such a novelty at bed time???
ReplyDeleteShe'll probably figure it out soon. Don't worry!
Our Abram is such a roller too! We had to stop swaddling him at night because he could roll onto his stomach, even with his arms tucked in tight. I always worry about them at night too until they can definitely roll both ways. Now that Abram is rolling around, we've discovered that he prefers to sleep on his side or his tummy rather than his back.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any brilliant suggestions as to what you should do until she can roll back over onto her back from her tummy. More practice time, like Heather mentioned, could help her get the hang of it quicker.
Good luck! And remember, you will be blessed with a good night's sleep.....eventually. =)
Cary, we got a breathable mesh bumper--it kept Miles's limbs from getting stuck.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't mind me reading your blog--since we both run, like green things and dogs, and are new mamas, I enjoy comparing notes!
Hey Mommas! Thanks for the great advice. After a few rough nights (for me mostly, not Cece) we finally just decided she could figure it out on her own. We put up bumpers to keep her legs contained and just let her roll around and cry it out until she falls asleep (usually doesn't take more than 5 minutes). She acts like she doesn't like sleeping on her tummy but then she sleeps for 4-5 hours so it can't be that bad. Whatever works!
