The Hen House

Meet the eight newest members of the family. These ladies (and possibly one rooster, oops) were born the week of Easter. We moved them to their outdoor home just two weeks ago. They are growing fast and should be laying eggs in another few months. It's hard to keep track of all of them or tell most of them apart but their names are (courtesy of the kids): Pocahontas, Army Man, Seven, Chipper, Chewy, Helen, Rosie (aka Snow White) and Henny Penny.

Getting bigger!

Moving day! The sign was from my grandfather's horse farm. The chicken coop was ours when we were kids.

Settling in.

  1. I love the idea of having chickens. Richmond recently legalized chickens in the city limits, but it's kind of tricky to get them. (Like you can have up to 3, but chickens here are sold in groups of 6, so you need a chicken buddy to split the purchase with). Hope you get lots of tasty homemade eggs!
